Who We Are

SMBEA was founded with a mission to address the challenges faced by underserved communities in Santa Monica. Recognizing the need for culturally competent support and advocacy, we created a resource hub dedicated to fostering self-sufficiency, financial literacy, mental health awareness, and family empowerment. Our work is rooted in community-driven solutions, ensuring that individuals receive the guidance and tools they need to succeed.

Message From Our Executive Director

My name is Kera Blades-Snell, and I am honored to serve as the Executive Director of the Santa Monica Black Empowerment Association (SMBEA). As an active member of the Santa Monica community and a passionate entrepreneur, I am committed to supporting our underserved and unrepresented communities.

At SMBEA, we are more than just an organization; we are a vital resource center here to serve you. Our mission is to provide case-based assistance, advocacy, and a safe space for those facing challenges. Whether it’s support with accessing resources, overcoming systemic barriers, or navigating social and economic challenges, we are here to ensure that all individuals, particularly in underserved communities, have the support they need to thrive.

We are a trusted and accessible space where you can find guidance, mentorship, and a sense of belonging. Our programs focus on community education, addressing implicit bias, and raising awareness of the lasting impacts of systemic racism. We strive to be a place of empowerment and healing while helping individuals build resilience, reduce the stigma of seeking help, and foster healthy coping strategies.

We invite you to connect with us and take advantage of the services we offer. We are ready and eager to assist you, whether you are a Santa Monica resident, worker, or student or anyone in need of support. Together, we can work to build a stronger, more equitable community.

Follow us on social media, share your ideas with us (we value your input), and support our cause by donating on our website.

On behalf of SMBEA, our dedicated board, and volunteers, thank you for your time and support. We are here for you, and together, we can make lasting change.

Sincerely, Kera Blades-Snell
